Prepositions of Place (preposiciones de lugar)

There are different types of prepositions.  A presposition is word that gives you information about location, time or direction. This lesson teaches you about the use of prepositions to describe the location of a person or thing (Prespositions of Place).

In the following sentence: “El Libro está en la mesa”. The English translation of this sentence is “The book is on the table”.

The preposition in this case is “en” which gives us information about location of the book

The following are some of the most commonly used prepositions of place.

1. En: in, on, at
2. Encima de: on, on top of, over
3. Sobre: onon, on top of
4. Arriba de: above, overhead
5. Debajo de:: under
6. Debajo: underneath
7. Al lado de: next to
8. Detrás de: : behind
9. Delante de: before, in front of
10. Entre: between, among
11. Adentro de: inside of
12. Afuera de: o outside of
